With contagious energy, charisma and DJ style Fernanda Fox is one of the main names in the Brazilian pop scene. Born in São Paulo in the East Zone, Fox has performed in 16 states and 6 countries in almost a decade of her career, and among the artists she has shared the stage with are Anita, Gloria Groove, Ivete Sangalo, Pablo Vittar It is Steve Aoki.
With all this success, the DJ’s schedule is full for the Carnival period. For her, this is a time of year when we can express ourselves more freely: “I think Carnival is definitely a time when most people put out countless desires that go far beyond just free bodies, definitely, it’s the opportunity to bring out all our fantasies! I think carnival for the Brazilian people is to laugh, have fun, be free in every way and leave our problems and the weight of the world aside a little, purge the evils that are many”.
Working at night for over 9 years, the DJ reports that she has already suffered prejudice for the clothes she wore during the shows.
“During my entire career so far, I’ve suffered too much prejudice, because they think I’m too vulgar for doing my shows with less clothes. audiences and I was harshly pointed out as vulgar by groups of elitist people who, nowadays, applaud artists who dress with as much or less clothes than I do, however, interpret songs that are in line with the cream of society. and I saw beauty in all cultures, from Jazz to Pop, from Hip Hop to Funk… I do believe that much of the prejudice I’ve suffered to date has a lot to do with the cultures I’ve always been more keen to represent in my shows, like POP with a focus on the LGBT public and funk. Fortunately, I felt that I broke many taboos in my niche, including the ones that I myself could have”, reported.
Known for being an attitude and empowered woman, Fernanda talks about performing sensuality: “I never sought this sensuality, as I never forced a stereotype on myself that didn’t exist, I simply matured. Feeling freer, more womanly, more financially secure, more secure in my personal and professional choices. I think that when we discover each other, get to know each other, love each other and put ourselves first, life flows naturally and I think that’s the great thing. We don’t understand anything, but it’s there, growing, existing, resisting and happening”.
The DJ spoke about the difficulties she faces and how she deals with day-to-day harassment at work.
“At the beginning of my career there was a lot more going on, the more I went through this process of maturation inside and outside my career, things around me started to change too, but until that happened, I always made it very clear and fought a lot so that respect me within my totality. As a woman, as an artist, as a lesbian woman and as a person. Although, it is not an easy task and the rest does not end, right. Woman breathes and suffers harassment, the fight never ends.”, he said.
