Since the beginning of the massive war, the actor has expressed support for Ukraine and announced that his charity organization will provide aid to Ukrainians fleeing the war.
Hollywood actor and director Sean Penn spoke about the first meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Deadline reports.
In particular, the celebrity first met the head of state a day before the full Russian invasion. Then he spoke with the Ukrainian leader, while he was filming a documentary about the war in the east of our country.
Sean Penn recalled that on that night the invaders fired the first rockets into the territory of Ukraine.
“Our first meeting took place on February 23 last year, then we went back to the hotel, and that night the rockets flew. Then the head of state was in a suit, the next time I saw him, he was camouflaged,” he said.
At the same time, the actor added that the meeting with Zelensky was one of the most important in his life.
“Besides meeting my children at the time of their birth, the main moment of meeting and feeling a big brave human heart was that day with this man,” shared one of the most titled actors in our time.
In addition, the Hollywood star embarrassed the organizers of the Oscar film awards, because they decided to show the conflict between the actor Will Smith and the host Chris Rock, and not the speech of Vladimir Zelensky.
“There is nothing better for the Academy to do than to give him the opportunity to talk to all of us… As far as I understand, the decision is not to do this,” the actor summed up.
Earlier it was reported that Sean Penn brought his Oscar, saying that the statuette was in Ukraine until the end of the war.
Sean Penn’s documentary about the war in Ukraine will be shown at the Berlinale
