Good sleep is important for good health. This common sense rule has just been confirmed by a study conducted by the Inserm team at the Center for Cardiovascular Research in Paris. The work, the preliminary results of which were presented on Saturday, August 27, at the European Society of Cardiology Congress in Barcelona, shows that quality sleep reduces the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke.
Conversely, restless nights are associated with a higher risk of developing these cardiovascular pathologies. The analysis has not yet been peer-reviewed by independent academics.
This work is based on a follow-up of nearly 7,200 people without any specific health problems who were recruited between 2008 and 2012 for a routine check-up at the Preventive Medical Center in Paris.
