Chronic disease, Asthma affects 20 million Brazilians according to the Brazilian Society of Pulmonology and Tisiology (SBPT), and is one of the most common problems around the world. Nonetheless, the condition can increase the risk of heart diseaseaccording to research to be presented at the American College of Cardiology and Korean Society of Cardiology conferences in Gyeongju, South Korea.
ASTHMA AND ALLERGIES CAN DEVELOP HIGH BP
The researchers highlighted a relationship between asthma and allergies with the development of high blood pressure. The association was observed among volunteers aged 18 to 57 years. Because of this, scientists advise that asthmatics and allergy sufferers undergo frequent tests to monitor the risk of heart problems.
According to the SBPT, asthma affects 300 million people worldwide, being a disease caused by inflammation of the airways. “According to DATASUS, the database of the Unified Health System, linked to the Ministry of Health, an average of 350,000 hospitalizations occur in Brazil annually”highlights the society.
The symptoms of the disease are:
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing;
- Feeling of tightness in the chest or heavy chest;
- Wheezing in the chest;
- Cough.
