Medications that are effective but should be used sparingly and that you need to know how to stop because of the risk of addiction or difficulty stopping. Benzodiazepines used for anxiety and/or insomnia, as well as antidepressants, are of particular concern, and the risk is greater as the prescription is prolonged and at high doses. However, it is clear that there are still too many inappropriate prescriptions.
Withdrawal syndrome can be life-threatening for patients. It is for this reason that the cessation should be done very gradually.
