Edie Falco thought the ‘Avatar’ sequel was released years ago and was a box office flop

While “Avatar” fans waited more than a decade for James Cameron to finish his sequel to the 2009 megahit, Edie Falco assumed they were years ago and back.

The actor, who plays a hardened general in “Avatar: The Way of Water,” made the revelation during a visit to “The View” last week.

“This second ‘Avatar’ — the one that’s coming out — I shot, I think, four years ago,” Falco told the panel. “And then I was busy, doing stuff, and then someone mentioned ‘Avatar.’ I said, ‘Oh, I guess it came out and it didn’t go too well,’ because I didn’t hear anything.”

“It’s happening,” he said, adding that he recently learned the “Avatar” sequel has finally hit theaters. His confusion was not unwarranted.

“Avatar 2” was originally slated for release in 2014, long before Falco was cast in her exoskeleton role as General Ardmore, according to ScreenRant. It was then scheduled for 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020. It finally hit theaters last Friday to huge success.

“The Way of Water” has already grossed more than $500 million worldwide by deadline. Falco, who famously starred in HBO’s “The Sopranos,” told “The View” hosts that he hadn’t seen the fantasy show yet and was originally hoping to play one of the Na’vi aliens.

“Well, I wanted to be blue,” Falco told the panel. “I was excited: I was going to be blue and very tall. … I received none of these things. But I got that exoskeleton and it was damn good. This is all so outside the realm of what I have ever done!

Cameron recently told IndieWire that he began writing all four “Avatar” sequels from 2009 to 2013. He said there were huge technical hurdles to overcome to properly capture the actors, underwater scenes and bring them to life. . the planet Pandora.

As for Falco, the Emmy-winning actor joked on “The View” that his issue with the release date could get him in trouble: “I’ll never work again because I said that.”
