Dax Shepard makes it clear that he has no time for sexism in the media.
Shepard, who has been married to fellow actor Kristen Bell since 2013, took to Star Magazine on Instagram over the weekend after the supermarket tabloid named him along with Ben Affleck and Keith Urban among “Hollywood’s dopest husbands”.
For those who don’t know, “henpeck” is defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary as “to subject (one’s spouse or partner) to persistent annoyance and dominance.” It is usually used in a sexist way to describe a woman who subjects her husband to “nuisance” or abuse.
“So excited and proud to share that I feel like I’m in a movie called Henpecked with Ben [Affleck] and Keith Urban,” Shepard wrote. “I haven’t read the script yet, but it looks like it’s already been shot.”
“I’m apparently playing the ‘No Friends Guy,’ who is clearly second banana to Ben’s ‘Assistant’ character,” Shepard continued. “The character of Keith ‘In By 10’ is the most difficult role to play in the film. He, like me, probably WANTS to stay out until 10, but being told he can’t stay out later makes him want to stay out until 11. This contradiction is fertile ground for a talented actor. I can not wait to see!!!!”
The magazine also named George Clooney and Chris Hemsworth to its list of male stars.
By Tuesday morning, Shepard’s post had received more than 345,000 likes. It also attracted a lot of comments from some of her famous friends, including those who had received similar comments about their relationships.
“I just dropped out,” wrote John Stamos. “I must have taken my part. Your hair will have to grow more and I hope you enjoy the nudity. Break your legs, man.
CNN reporter Jake Tapper added: “I read for it. A great character arc in act 3 when you come home to your amazing wife and kids and live a happy life. Congratulations!”

Hypocritical headlines aside, Bell and Shepard were happy to remind fans on social media that their nine-year marriage is as strong as ever. Earlier this month, Shepard praised his wife for her “Grinch”-themed Christmas tree.
“It’s here to connect and drink beer,” she wrote, “and unfortunately for its Christmas competitors, it seems it’s out of beer.”
