Matt Damon grilled George Clooney at the recent Kennedy Center Honors with a reference to one of his most famous pranks. (Watch the video below.)
Clooney, a two-time Academy Award winner, was feted at the annual event in Washington, DC, which took place on December 4 and will air on CBS on December 28. President Joe Biden was among the distinguished attendees.
But Damon didn’t stay for the ceremony.
“They say my friend George Clooney is the last of the real movie stars,” Damon said. “So I got to thinking about exactly what that means. Of course, a number of former Kennedy Center laureates have certainly been movie stars in that classic sense. Actors with class and sophistication: Cary Grant, Henry Fonda, Paul Newman, Gregory Peck.
“And then I think of George, a man who once defecated in Richard Kind’s trash can as a joke,” Damon continued.
True story. Clooney detailed it on the “Smartless” podcast, saying that former roommate Kind’s constipated kitten started pooping profusely after taking a laxative. Clooney continued to wash the chair and was inspired.
“After a few weeks, the light bulb goes on and I realize what I have to do, which is shit in the cat’s cage,” the actor said.
Kind was amazed by the size of the chair until he realized it, Clooney recalled.
The “Ticket to Paradise” star thought it was hilarious. Bland, not so much. “Fag doesn’t make me laugh!” he said, according to Clooney.
“I’m not sure if that’s how I want to be remembered,” Clooney said of his gag to the “Smartless” hosts.
