Michelle Obama has the best response to the now-viral moment a woman gushes over her husband’s appearance at a campaign event.
Appearing on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” the former first lady, Barack Obama’s wife, said she had heard about the woman’s comment but had not seen the hilarious clip.
That is until Kimmel played coup to his performance for her on stage, which has garnered more than 8 million views on Twitter in the two months since its release.
“He came home, that was the first thing he said. I said, ‘How did it go?'” Michelle Obama recalled on Monday’s episode, revealing the comment was the highlight of her husband’s day. She said he told her, “Somebody said I’m fine.”
As for her reaction to being teased? “I was like, ‘Oh, really, that’s so sweet,'” she said, as the audience laughed.
The moment occurred on October 29, while the former president was campaigning in Detroit for Democratic candidates in the midterm elections.
After joking that being on the dance floor “feels a little harder than it used to” and “not just because I’m older and greyer”, one woman in the audience couldn’t help but totally agree, shouting that the 61-year-old was “even better than a bastard.”
As the crowd erupted in laughter, Barack Obama chuckled and turned to look at the woman before asking her to repeat what she said.
“She said I’m still fine,” she told the cheering crowd. “I won’t tell Michelle you said that, even if Michelle agrees.” She knows.”
During Monday’s episode, Kimmel asked Michelle if she shares these stories with Barack, to which she jokingly replied, “He doesn’t need to know all my business.”
Last month, the author of The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times took to social media about the keys to a successful marriage and the importance of compromise.
“Over the years, many young people have asked me about marriage. And my answer usually goes something like this: you have to prepare for long periods of discord and unrest. You have to learn to make real compromises in how you lived as an individual. A glamorous relationship while dating will get you straight into trouble once you get married. You can’t document problems when you live with someone day in and day out,” she wrote on Instagram.
Michelle, who celebrated 30 years of marriage to Barack in October, added: ‘So you have to ask yourself: What are you trying to get out of this relationship? Have you really thought about that? Do you want marriage or do you want a lifelong partnership? They are two very different things. Together, answer the question: who are we and who do we want to be?
She and Barack Obama have two daughters: Malia, 24, and Sasha, 21.
“The Light We Carry” is now available in bookstores nationwide.
