5 facts about animation

This Sunday, 11, the animation “The Princess and the Frog”, which tells the story of Princess Tiana, completes exactly 13 years since its release in theaters, being the last animated film in 2D format released by Disney.

To celebrate such a special date, Recreio separated an incredible list with five fun facts about the classic animation. Check out!

1. No star

One of the cutest moments in the entire animation is the relationship between Ray, the firefly, and the star Evangeline, who he says is his great love. However, according to information released by Rede Globo, the star is not a star, but the planet Venus – also referring to the goddess of love from Roman mythology who bears the same name.

2. Inspiration for Mama Odie

the storyteller Coleen Salley, from New Orleans, was the person responsible for inspiring Mama Odie, both in appearance and in voice. The woman even got to meet several times with the director, however, she ended up passing away some time before the film’s premiere.

3. Easter egg

In the first scenes, we can see Tiana taking a tram to go to work, which has the inscription “A113”. The number references a room in the animation department at the California Institute of the Arts.

4. Homage to the jazz master

Louis the crocodile was not named for nothing. It was named as a tribute to the jazz master louis armstrong, also known as ‘Dippermouth’, ‘Satchelmouth’ and ‘Satchmo’. The star passed away in 1971, leaving a great legacy in music.

5. More jazz references

The references to jazz within “The Princess and the Frog” are not limited to Louis’s name. The crocodile’s band, Firefly Five Plus Lou, also alludes to a real jazz band called Firehouse Five Plus Two, which was made up entirely of Disney animation studio employees.
