Official daily newspaper in North Korea Rodong Simun This Sunday, he published new photos in which the master of Pyongyang is depicted with his second daughter, Ju-Ae. The latter’s existence was confirmed last week.
He would be 9 years old a priori. Ten days ago, no one had ever seen the face of Kim Jong Un’s second daughter, Ju-Ae. However, the North Korean leader appeared alongside his younger sister for the second time to celebrate the launch of his latest intercontinental ballistic missile, the “monster missile” Hwasong-17. In the photos published by the official daily newspaper Rodong Simun This Sunday, November 27, we see a little girl in a black coat with a fur collar, arm in arm with her father. Other footage shows the father-daughter pair, clearly very complicit, facing off against uniformed soldiers.

“Dear Daughter”
Ju-ae’s existence was first revealed on November 18 when North Korean media released photos of her in a white jacket and red sneakers on her feet, with her father holding her hands as a helper during the launch of the Hwasong-17. An extremely rare fact. North Korea’s KCNA news agency (and the sole source of information from Pyongyang) later noted that the leader had left for the launch “accompanied by his wife and (his) beloved daughter.” The administration had never confirmed the existence of the leader’s family before.
South Korean intelligence services confirm that Kim Jong Un married Ri Sol Ju in 2009 and that the latter had three children between 2010 and 2017, without specifying the gender.
Already in 2013, former NBA star Dennis Rodman, visiting Pyongyang, inadvertently revealed the existence of this child, as well as his name. “I hugged their little Ju-ae and talked to Madame Ri as well. He is a good father and has a beautiful family,” he said Keeper .
A sequence of events?
Ju-ae’s appearance in any case revives speculation about a future transfer of dynastic power in North Korea, where Kim Jong-un succeeded his father, Kim Jong-il, and his grandfather, Kim Il-sung. Now that his existence has been revealed, Ju-ae is likely to be able to participate in state affairs, Cheong Son-hang, a North Korea specialist at South Korea’s Sejong Institute, told AFP.
Moreover, the fact that he is publicly at his father’s side may indicate that he has been chosen as his successor. Or simply to serve propaganda. Also speaking to AFP, Yang Moo-jin, a professor at the University of North Korean Studies in Seoul, said: No one knows, however, why the North Korean leader has set his sights on his younger sibling, and what is happening to the older sibling.
