Leave it to Aubrey Plaza turns a charming Italian seaside town into a nightmare.
“The White LotusThe star did indeed engage in a terrifying prank that she decided to play on her co-star Adam DiMarco while they were filming at the Four Seasons Palace San Domenico for five months in Taormina, Sicily.
“I definitely questioned my reality for a while,” DiMarco, who plays Albie in season two, told GQ. in a Plaza profile posted Monday.
Plaza took inspiration for her elaborate manners from the hotel they stayed in, which was originally a centuries-old monastery that was apparently haunted..
One day, Plaza took used speakers from the hotel and left the symbol “a ‘Blair Witch’ style” on the floor of DiMarco’s dressing room. He also slipped notes “with threatening messages saying ‘here it lies'” under people’s doors.
To cover his tracks, Plaza contaminates his dressing room the same way he framed DiMarco – and then pretends to be completely insane, demanding to know who did it.
Although Plaza successfully criticized her co-stars, the hotel staff — who Plaza said thought she was a “suspicious” and “despicable character” — were pretty convinced it was her. They also checked security footage to prove it. But when they spotted a brunette on set, Plaza blamed her co-stars Beatrice Grannò (Mia) and Simona Tabasco (Lucia).
DiMarco was so ingrained in Plaza’s lie that he even admitted that finding out who did this to him “was like ‘Murder on the Orient Express.’
“Adam was so innocent, like a little bird,” Plaza told GQ about the incident. “It was very bad what I did to him. I put him on the verge of a psychological break”.
Plaza’s prank could also have benefited from DiMarco’s belief that something paranormal was going on at the hotel.
Last month, DiMarco told GQ who shared the same scary dream as his colleague Jon Gries (Greg Hunt) while staying at the Four Seasons.
“He’s a bald man walking around and he got up at the foot of our bed and grabbed us,” DiMarco told the magazine at the time.
“I found myself screaming and didn’t think about it until Jon mentioned his story,” DiMarco said. “It was so strange that the stories line up so clearly.”
