Nine Inch Nails singer Trent Reznor has said he quit Twitter to protect his sanity, and the platform’s owner Elon Musk has mocked the musician as a “bag of noise”. The oppression prompted actor Wil Wheaton to denounce Musk as an evil force and “hurting a person who is hurting our society.”
Reznor told The Hollywood Reporter last week that he was “about to leave” the social media site.
“We don’t need the arrogance of the billionaire class to feel like they can come in and fix everything,” Reznor told the media. “Even without [Musk] involved, I just find that it has become such a toxic environment. For my health, I have to manage. I don’t feel good sitting there anymore.”
Musk responded to Reznor in response to a tweet about former President Donald Trump’s reinstatement on Twitter, which Musk announced this week after conducting an unscientific poll.
“It turns out that Trent ‘Nine Inch Nails’ Reznor is actually a crybaby,” Musk joked. One Nine Inch Nails fan called Musk a “stupid idiot”, declaring Reznor “one of the best musicians ever”. Musk replied, “I like his music, but maybe Etsy is more his style.”
Musk’s dismissal of Reznor’s concerns prompted Wheaton to make a lengthy Facebook post in which he said he “failed to understand the emptiness, the insecurity, the insatiable need for attention and validation, the incredible arrogance, the pettiness, and the utter emptiness of experience human”. . .
Wheaton blasted Musk for harassing, threatening and trolling “like the weak, scared, insecure guy he’s always been.”
“It’s a tragedy for him, but it’s dangerous for us,” the actor continued. “He doesn’t care what he destroys or who he hurts as he pursues this existential thing he can never have.”
“You know the saying ‘hurt people, hurt people’?” He is a wounded person who is harming our society by making the people we care about less safe,” he added. “The ramifications of this man’s midlife crisis are global and it horrifies me.”
