My mood at the moment?
I feel like I’m in a fog.
My current role.
Being Iranian, I feel pain, sadness, but also anger. If I were there, I would go out on the street, but being here, I strive to bridge two cultures, translate cultural nuances and clarify misunderstandings. I try to publish enlightening videos and information on social networks, while measuring this responsibility. (Golshifteh Farahani has 14.6 million followers on Instagram, editor’s note).
Am I afraid of retaliation?
I can’t say I’m afraid, but I can’t help it. I am alert because danger can come from anywhere.
Salome, my character Romantic comedy…
…funny, non-judgmental, sees the bright side in everything and I love that about her. I’m not always positive, but I try to be positive too.
Talking about yourself in an interview, is that the house?
No way ! Interviews force me to verbalize my feelings and understand things about myself and various topics, especially the history of Iran. I see these meetings as a type of psychoanalysis because putting words around a topic makes it clearer. Even the questions that make me uncomfortable push my mind forward.

What do I think when I look at my makeup in the morning?
Being myopic, in a dark bathroom, I can’t see anything in the morning. Not wearing glasses is a choice, I don’t need details and it allows me to develop absolute sound.
Do I still have the holy fire?
Sometimes I get bored on long projects, but the characters I play always manage to remind me that the fire is there.
Is there a misunderstanding about me?
The reason why I am in exile. Many people think that I left Iran because I appeared on the red carpet without a veil, but it was because I shot State lieBy Ridley Scott. The Iranian secret services arrested me for collaborating with the Americans, and seven months of interrogation and psychological torture forced me to leave the country. I was 24 years old.
I lie in an interview.
No. Ever since I left Iran, it has been my goal to live in truth. I say everything, I’m happier that way.
A thread that makes me jump off my hinges.
It is rather a person whose name I prefer to keep silent. Since the man in this movie lies and behaves so badly with women, he deserves to be exposed for his true colors and I will do my best to do that.
Last time I was proud of myself?
When Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey retweeted one of my posts on Iran.
An opinion that makes me happy.
When it is said about me that I can act without thinking. In life, I have often acted more with my body than with my head.
What am I going to do after this interview?
Take off my heavy mascara and curl up on the bed doing nothing. These moments of solitude are vital to me because I’m actually a frustrated introvert.
