Learn about the real-life story that inspired ‘Anastasia’

Exactly 20 years ago, it was launched by Fox Animation Studios the animation “Anastasia”, considered by specialized critics to be the best non-Disney animation ever released. The film tells the story of the princess and grand duchess Anastasiafrom Russia, who fled with his grandmother after the imperial palace was attacked by revolutionaries, where he ends up hitting his head and losing his memory while trying to escape.

However, what many people may not know is that the animation was inspired by the real story of the last imperial family of the Russian monarchy, the Romanovmore specifically in a rumor involving the princess Anastasiasuffering some adaptations so that it could fit into a plot with free classification for all audiences.

What’s the real story?

In the year 1917, the Russian population was in a situation of extreme poverty and misery – something that had remained since the First World War, in 1915 – and extremely unhappy with the Tsar. Nicholas IIruler who had been in power for more than two decades.

In February of the same year, with the situation in the country getting worse and worse, the people held a major revolt in the city of Petrograd, capital of Russia at the time, generating enormous concern in the tsar’s office, which suggested to the monarch his abdication.

Nicholas II left power on March 15, 1917, and was sent with his family by the new government to house arrest, with 24-hour surveillance. After a year in prison, on July 17, 1918, the Tsar, his wife Alexandra Feodorovnatheir five children, Tatiana🇧🇷 olga🇧🇷 Maria🇧🇷 Alexei and Anastasiaalong with four other employees, were killed by Bolshevik troops.

The final fate of the family remained hidden by the Russian government for decades, only being identified in 1991. Since the end of the imperial family, many people have started to wonder what really happened to the Romanovgenerating numerous rumours.

One of the most popular claimed that Anastasia had survived, and could be somewhere – something that gained strength when her body was not found along with her parents and siblings in the 1990s.

At the time of the event, many people came to believe that the Grand Duchess Anastasia had survived the events of 1918, and many look-alikes of the heiress of Romanov began to emerge across the country, trying to gain the right to all the inheritance of the former imperial family.

The most famous was Anna Anderson, an impostor who was found in a madhouse in the city of Berlin in 1920, and claimed to be the princess. According to the woman, she had survived the attacks, and was saved by a Polish soldier, whom she married and received his last name.

The whole mystery involving the disappearance of the body of Anastasia it was only resolved in 2008, when Russian scientists were finally able to find the bones of the grand duchess and her brother, Alexei🇧🇷
