Disney’s most beloved couple is having an anniversary! On November 18, Mickey and Minnie Mouse celebrate their 94th birthday, and the date will not go unnoticed, as it will feature several special celebrations prepared by Disney.

That’s because, on the 18th of November, premieres on Disney’s streaming service: “Mickey: The Story of a Mouse”, a documentary that presents the trajectory of Mickey Mouse. Over those nine decades, the character has evolved into startlingly different versions of himself that reflect both his creator’s remarkable career and the dramatic societal changes in the nation he came to represent.

In addition, that same day, the short film “The Wonderful Autumn of Mickey Mouse” also debuts on Disney+, which joins the extensive catalog starring Mickey and Minnie available on the platform.

Even so, the celebrations do not end with streaming, as Disney Channel will show a special program with productions of the characters throughout the day and on social networks, the date will be celebrated with allusive content to accompany the celebrations, where fans can participate with the hashtag #HappyBirthMickeyeMinnie.

1. The big debut

Ever stop to wonder why Disney celebrates Mickey and Minnie Mouse every November 18th since 1928? The reason is simple: this is the exhibition date of the short film “Steamboat Willie”, a production that marked its first official appearances.

Available on Disney+, the production was the first sound-synchronized short film to premiere at New York’s Colony Theater, and is a spoof loosely based on “Steamboat Bill Jr,” a silent film starring Buster Keaton also in 1928.

With the film’s screen debut, the instant fame and enduring charm of these iconic characters soon followed, also marking the emergence of a variety of licensed products from the 1930s onwards, from writing pads and clocks to clothing and school supplies. 9. Eternalized on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

But a historic feat was marked in 1978 at Mickey Mouse’s 50th birthday celebration, as he became the first animated character to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Minnie received her star in 2018, on the 90th anniversary of her creation. His induction into the Walk of Fame was accompanied by a fun event alongside leaders of The Walt Disney Company, fans and special guests, such as the singer Katy Perrywho wore a polka dot dress in honor of the honoree.


10. An out-of-the-ordinary ride

The pair served as the inspiration for Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, located at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, which invites guests of all ages to hop on a wacky railroad and experience a thrilling ride with unexpected twists, gags and more surprises, as the characters save the day.
