Controversial comedian Dave Chappelle went on tiptoe in his “Saturday Night Live” monologue as he challenged anti-Semitic attacks, certain stereotypes and censorship of Ye (formerly known as Kanye West).
And everyone kept laughing – uproar.
It was Chappelle’s first time hosting the sketch show since he sparked major controversy for transphobic jokes in his latest Netflix special, “The Closer.” Some angry “Saturday Night Live” writers considered boycotting the show.
Chappelle didn’t address the transphobic jokes, but he did address other serious issues.
“I denounce anti-Semitism in all its forms, and I stand with my friends in the Jewish community,” Chappelle said at the start of his monologue. He then added, “So Kanye, you’re buying yourself some time.”
Chappelle explained that he’s almost always ready to “shoot right back” for Ye when he gets it wrong. But after the rapper said he “died by 3” about Jews in an alarming tweet last month, Chappelle said he made up his mind: “You know what? Show me what happens first.
The most annoying thing, he said, was that Ye posted the comment on Twitter, then went to bed. “I stayed all night worried: What the will he do to the Jews?” Chappelle said.
“I don’t think Kanye is crazy at all. I think it might not be good,” Chappelle said.
He added: “I know the Jewish people have gone through terrible things all over the world, but you can’t blame black Americans. You just can’t.
He clearly noticed that there is a amount of Hollywood Jews, adding, “How, a amount.” But “that doesn’t mean anything,” Chappelle added. “There are a lot of black people in Ferguson, Missouri. It doesn’t mean we run the place.”
As for the last few midterms, Chappelle called them “observably stupid,” adding that he has to think about the established moves of candidate Herschel Walker (who faces a runoff against Democratic candidate Raphael Warnock on Dec. 6). . Black Georgia Senate Candidate. Chappelle also called Walker “the most threatening” of the midterms.
Chappelle is convinced he understands why former President Donald Trump is so popular, because he’s an “honest liar.” Trump talks about how rich people like him can take advantage of the majority of Americans and then does it again and again.
White people are like “babies, they just woke up,” he continued.
Finally, in an apparent reference to the controversy surrounding his appearance on “SNL” — and his Netflix show — Chappelle said he no longer enjoys performing in front of large crowds.
“It shouldn’t be so scary to talk about something,” she said. “It makes my job incredibly difficult. I love you to death and thank you for your support.”
