Lindsay Lohan kicked off the release of her new romantic comedy, Falling for Christmas, with a playful Yuletide nostalgia hit.
Last week, Lohan unveiled a new rendition of “Jingle Bell Rock,” the same song she performed with co-stars Lacey Chabert, Rachel McAdams and Amanda Seyfried in 2004’s “Mean Girls.” Rock is used in a critical film “Falling for Christmas”. ” and the end-credits tracks, the actor-singer said the 2022 version began as “a joke I made in conversation” and was not part of the film’s original script.
“I said, ‘Wouldn’t that be a good idea?’ It was one of those moments where she turns around and kicks your ass, and you’re like, ‘Oh my God, now I have to do this,'” Lohan told HuffPost. “Originally, the blooper shot was supposed to be all of us, me and the cast dancing together to ‘Mean Girls.’ I felt it was going too far and in the end we all agreed.”
The new “Jingle Bell Rock” might be a playful nod to Lohan’s past, but these days she looks to the future with optimism and a renewed sense of artistic purpose. “Falling for Christmas,” which arrived on Netflix on Thursday, marks his first starring role in a major film in nearly a decade. She plays Sierra Belmont, a spoiled hotel heiress who is stricken with amnesia during an ill-fated ski trip with her boyfriend, Tad (George Young).

A few days before Christmas, memory-challenged Sierra is taken in by handsome cabin owner Jake Russell (Chord Overstreet) and his young daughter, Avy (Olivia Perez). Sure, Sierra and Jake make an odd couple: She’s used to four-star dining and fancy room service, while he makes his living in lesser hospitality. In true rom-com fashion, hilarity and romance ensue.
Directed by Janeen Damian, “Falling for Christmas” borrows heavily from 1987’s “Overboard,” starring Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, and nods to holiday-focused romantic comedies like 1998’s “You’ve Got Mail” and “Love Actually” from 2003. no doubt deliberate. What makes the film so watchable is Lohan’s indelible screen presence, as well as her palpable chemistry with Overstreet.
“I love the character, I love the romance, I love a good romantic comedy,” Lohan said when asked why she chose “Falling for Christmas” as her return to acting. “This script had all of that. I like the bow that [Sierra] ha – to see someone stripped of everything and how it changes them as a person and brings out such a genuine side.”
Overstreet, best known for playing Sam Adams on “Glee,” said he and Lohan formed a natural relationship because of their shared sense of humor.
“We’re both pretty stupid, I’d say,” she explained. “Love a good joke, love a good gag.”

Both Lohan and Overstreet praised Perez, whose credits include the 2021 musical “In the Heights,” among other films. “She was just the sweetest — really talented, smart, funny, very mature and professional,” Overstreet said. “He was in and out and he was always crushing it.”
Lohan, meanwhile, said working with Perez was like a throwback to her days as an actress. “At this age, I’ve never worked with a kid my age when I was in ‘Parent Trap,'” he said. “So it was very nostalgic for me to see a young woman so talented and so focused. I just wanted to hug her all the time.”
“Falling for Christmas” is the first film in Lohan’s three-film deal with Netflix, fans and media to have already described the holiday film as the beginning of a professional ‘rebirth’. He recently finished work on “Irish Wish,” a comedy starring Jane Seymour, due out next year.
Lohan is encouraged by the praise, even though she calls the praise “exciting.” Regardless of how “Falling for Christmas” does, she sees the film as an important step for her in Hollywood. In addition to starring in the film, she is also one of its executive producers.
“I like having a little more control over the process, which is why I wanted to be an executive producer, just to be a little more active with the film as it’s running and the finished product,” she said. “It encourages me to do more, make great movies and give people what they deserve.”
