Jean Paul Gaultier opens its doors, faux denim… Commanding Madame

Back to what the editorial team absolutely loves to share this week.

Palestinian artisan denim

Levi’s and Adish collaboration. Levi’s

Levi’s is packing its suitcases in the Middle East with Addish. Since its inception, the Israeli-Palestinian label has sought to combine local craftsmanship with contemporary silhouettes. For this capsule, the duo uses unsold pieces from Levi’s, which they revisit through the work of around fifty artisans from Palestine and the West Bank. Tatrezi ancestral embroideries paired with Bedouin artisanal fabrics depicting scenes of daily Palestinian life adorn Levi’s unisex wardrobe, from the classic 501 to Levi’s Chore jackets. As a bonus, this collection is supported by the Lakiya Weaving Initiative, which supports women’s liberation in the region through work. A happy paradox when we know that “adishmeans “corrupt” in Hebrew.

The collection is available at Levi.com and select stores.

Olympia Le-Tan X Maison Kitsuné

Olympia Le-Tan X Maison Kitsuné Kistune house

Parable of clothes. The brands Kitsuné and Olympia Le-Tan are signing a collaboration under the sign of comfort from November 16. The garment is designed to be transversal, designed to use its interior as if for dancing. For the occasion, New York artist Aurel Schmidt paints the adventures of the famous fox, Maison Kitsuné’s logo, for this capsule, accompanied by two figures with the features of a rat and a cockroach. The three accomplices fit over sweaters, skirts or dresses and are mixed with Liberty motifs as well as a black and white photo collage. Comfort and fantasy are guaranteed.

The collection is available from November 16 HomeKitsune.comIn Maison Kitsuné stores and a selection of sales points.

Scent of scandal

Photographs from the Jean Paul Gaultier x Ekale “Under Your Smell” exhibition. Jean Paul Gaultier x Ecal

Jean Paul Gaultier opens the doors of his historic Paris headquarters to the general public to hold a show at the intersection of fashion and perfume. The house invited 29 students from ECAL (Ecole cantonale d’art de Lausanne) to submit their interpretation of its perfume. Scandal through photography. Its suggestive bottle is thus subverted by young artists and found wrapped in subversive bodies and decorations under the scents of punk and rebellion. Hanging, flying, plastered on fabric, video or printed on furniture, a total of sixty works cover the reception room. The public then moves through a maze of chromatic rooms, a catwalk of floor-to-ceiling imprinted images, for an immersive experience. A performance reminiscent of a fashion show and a modern art performance.

Exhibition “Under Your Smell” Jean Paul Gaultier x ECAL, November 10th to 12th, 2022, from 11am to 8pm, 325 rue Saint-Martin, Paris (3rd arrondissement). Free entry.

Solidarity parade organized by Jacqueline Evera in association with APF France and Autremonde. Mia Aluf

Jacqueline Evera does not participate in Fashion Week. A refugee from the Tutsi genocide in Rwanda, he campaigns for the rights of marginalized people. On the occasion of the week dedicated to the employment of persons with disabilities, the latter, however, decided to take over the traditional fashion show to make it an event of solidarity. Dedicated to people with disabilities, in collaboration with APF France Handicap and Autremonde, the Jacoborina project aims to reconcile two worlds that still rarely interact. To make this presentation, creators Julien Fournier, Franck Sorbier, Mossy Traore, Sakina M’Sa, as well as IMF and Alix Workshops put their hands in the dough to design an accessible wardrobe complete with Carel shoes. An initiative that combines inclusion and creativity.

On November 18, the Jacoborina fashion show will take place at La Caserne in Paris.

Palace years in view

Exhibition “La fête au Palace” by Arno Bauman. Arno Bauman

Portrait of an era. From November 9 to January 21, the Center Pompidou, the Museum of Decorative Arts and the Studio Harcourt gallery are wearing the colors of the 1980s with the help of Arnaud Baumann. Trained at the Beaux-Arts in Paris, the photographer took his first steps in the field of photojournalism in 1975, met the team of Hara Kiri magazine, then took an artistic turn in his career. This winter, the photographer immerses us in the nightlife of the famous Parisian nightclub, a favorite of the fashion scene at the time: the Palace. Having just landed in the capital at the time, he captures the supercharged atmosphere of those Parisian nights of 1978-1983, etched into the annals. Lights, fashion and excess, a cocktail to savor with nostalgia or desire.

Studio Harcourt Gallery, open 11am to 5.30pm, Tuesday to Saturday.
