Avatar: The Way of Water is set to open in theaters on December 16th. It will run for over three hours.

Canadian director James Cameron has revealed some details about the new sequel to Avatar: The Way of the Water. GamesRadar writes about it.

According to him, the sequel was filmed for a very long time because they focused on the emotional component. The authors wanted to show the personalities of the characters.

The story follows Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana). They had five children. Jake leaves his weak body and, with the help of the magic of the planet Pandora, transfers consciousness to the body of the avatar forever.

“Our goal was to tell a very compelling and emotional story,” Cameron said.

“I would say that the new film is more about the characters, more about the story, more about relationships, more about emotions. We didn’t spend as much time on relationships and emotions in the first movie as we did in the second one . . , and it’s a longer movie, because it has more characters to show. People watch the trailer and say, “Oh my God, a Disney family story? It’s so sweet!” Now, it’s not that kind of family story. Family story, like a family story from The Sopranos,” he added.

It is also known that there will be more drama in the sequel.

“Principal photography has been completed. Its release is scheduled for December 20, 2024. Subsequent sequels are slated to release in December 2026 and December 2028,” the director said.
