There was no shortage of star power this weekend at the 2022 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony, which celebrated a host of era-defining musicians including Duran Duran, Eminem and Dolly Parton.
One artist who was not in attendance, however, was Alanis Morissette. The singer-songwriter reprized a version of Carly Simon’s 1971 classic “You’re So Vain” with Olivia Rodrigo last week.
But at Saturday’s ceremony, Rodrigo performed the song as a solo in honor of 2022 Rock Hall inductee Simon. Obviously, the press began to speculate why Morissette didn’t show up at the last minute.
On Monday, Morissette addressed the reasons behind her deletion in an Instagram Stories post. Although the seven-time Grammy winner praised Rodrigo and other artists who were in attendance at the celebration, she suggested that the Rock Hall’s “disrespect for women” drove her decision to withdraw.
“I spent decades in an industry filled with general anti-women sentiments and tolerated a lot of condescension and disrespect, cuts, rejection, breach of contract, lack of support, exploitation and psychological abuse (and more) from throughout my career. ,” he wrote. “I tolerated it because nothing would stop me from getting in touch with those I cared about and resonated with.”
“Fortunately, I’m at a point in my life where I don’t have to spend time in an environment that demeans women,” she continued, clarifying that she’s had “countless incredible experiences with production teams of all kinds throughout my life. “
HuffPost reached out to a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame representative for comment on Morissette’s allegations, but he did not immediately respond.
Sara Bareilles accepted the investiture honor on behalf of Simon, who was unable to attend the ceremony in Los Angeles due to the recent deaths of his sisters Joanna and Lucy. According to Rolling Stone , Bareilles then took the stage to perform Simon’s “Nobody Does It Better” from the 1977 James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me.
Fans will be able to attend the 2022 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony next month when it airs on HBO.
