The sixty-year-old model took part in a fashion show campaigning against the invisibility of the elderly. On this occasion, we caught up with her to talk about old age, “age” and beauty.
In her wedding dress made from recycled fabrics, Caroline Ida Mears closes the parade with all smiles, dancing enthusiastically to the applause of the audience. This Thursday, October 27, the feeling was felt in public at the Hôtel de Ville in Paris. Hand-in-hand, young and old (including the oldest celebrating his 101st birthday) have just paraded in costume, chanting slogans such as “courage has no age,” “flowers fade, not us,” or even “don’t grow up grandma.” in lace.” This intergenerational event, organized by the Association of the Little Brothers of the Poor in association with Nivea, aimed to highlight the bodies of our elders. And to change our view of aging. The confidences of the godmother of this militant are shown at the exit of the pulpit.
Madame Figaro:What did it mean to you to participate in this parade?
Caroline is Ida Mern. I have been fighting the invisibility and ageism of women over 50 for almost five years now. So when the Association of the Little Brothers of the Poor came to invite me to this project, it didn’t take me long to say yes. It fit perfectly with my commitments. Through this event, young people will be able to project themselves and say that old age is beautiful and it is a chance. And if it also sets an example for others in the fashion world, that would be great.
What advice would you give women to embrace their age and boost their self-confidence?
To dare. If I didn’t dare, I think I wouldn’t be here tonight. Society is pushing us back to standards of perfection, thinness and youth at all costs… but every woman has her own beauty.
Society sends us back standards of perfection, thinness and youth at all costs.

What do you think of the term?anti-agingin cosmetics?
That’s all was ! It seems that these products prevent us from aging. A wrinkle is beautiful, it moves me. Many wrinkled people have a story. And the word “against” is negative when, I repeat, it is a chance to grow old. Brands need to understand this, even if it is a big challenge for them. In the USA, they are already quite ahead in this matter. They use terms like pro age Where? aging well. I feel like it’s boiling over that more and more celebrities are finally speaking up. There’s also the word “menopause,” which is taboo when it shouldn’t be. We are in 2022, everything must change.
How do you approach old age?
I’ve had a serious health emergency, I’m a miracle, so I’m enjoying every moment. Today it’s hard to project yourself in this hectic world we live in, so let’s enjoy every moment. Also, after 50 there are many things that affect us, such as menopause, children leaving, sometimes job loss or illness. We don’t have to be ready for it. You just have to accept it and be grateful, say “thank you” to life. Also, young people should catch up with their elders and vice versa, so that they no longer have the fear of getting old.
I have the impression that assuming his white hair has become a new clue. It’s like removing one assignment to create another.

How did you get your white hair?
I took them late, only four years ago. And it was not by my will, but because I was losing my hair. So I let things happen. However, I have always struggled with white hair, as soon as I saw it on my head I couldn’t stand it. However, I have the impression that assuming white hair has become the new dictum today. In order to be fashionable when you’re over 50, it seems you need to have beautiful, long, completely white hair. It’s like undoing one assignment to create another. Everyone is free to wear their hair short, long, pink, blue or green… Everyone has their own identity.
Beauty advice to help you feel good about yourself.
When you wake up in the morning, look in the mirror and smile at yourself. Then say to yourself: “I love you”: Also do you do facial massages? It is very pleasant, good for the skin and restores collagen. Massage your body too, you need to reconnect with it because we tend to forget it.
