“It’s a great honor to participate in the project, it’s like I invite friends to have a party. Each artist comes from a part of a country that is so diverse, cultural and with so much baggage. I thought a lot about artists who develop characters, considering the universe of animation, and who have their characteristic characters. They could portray Piu-Piu in the same way that they reproduce their characters”, explains Marcelo Eco.
Located in one of the most famous tourist spots in the world, the mural designed by Dolores Esos It is close to the Sugar Loaf, in Rio de Janeiro, on Urca beach. Esos’ graffiti integrates Piu-Piu’s personality into the festive atmosphere of Rio de Janeiro’s Carnival, highlighting bright colors and carioca icons.
“Tweety is a fun, friendly and very intelligent character. This mixture of characteristics fits perfectly into the joy of the sambista”, says Dolores Esos. “The character was part of my childhood and recreating him with a carioca flavor is an achievement”, he continues. esos. “I also enjoyed a dialogue with the colors of Carnival, the samba schools, and the figure of the sambista with his trickster hat. I wanted to create that same explosion of elements in the graphic movements”, adds the artist.
The Canary from Warner Bros. also landed in Salvador (BA). designed by mustache the frogthe second Brazilian mural is located next to the famous church of Nosso Senhor do Bonfim, a great symbol of Bahia.
When discussing the inspiration behind his design, mustache shares: “I remember that when I used to go to a capoeira academy, something very common here in Bahia, I would go home thinking about watching the Looney Tunes cartoons. Thus, the idea of making the painting with Piu-Piu dressed as an abadá arose, with a representation of Salvador’s roots — something that represents the fusion of our traditional culture, with capoeira, paralyzing the city. It’s a universe full of colors that speaks volumes about our way of being and living here.”
