On Wednesday, September 24, the opening ceremony of the 16th Odessa International Film Festival (OMKF) took place at Kyiv.
The festival began in a minute of silence in the memory of all those who died as a result of Russia’s invasion against Ukraine. The event was opened by the president of OMKF Victoria Tigipko, emphasizing the role of cinema in Ukrainian worldwide:
“The cinema of Ukrainians is now the voice of truth and perseverance. Our successes in international festivals prove: it is recognized and needed in the world. It is a movie about rubins – the ability to live and tell the truth when it is difficult. Strength, creative, inspiration, durability is the basis of our DNA culture,” he emphasized.
The Film Festival will last until October 4. Shower and professional events will be held at Zhovten Cinema, the Oscar Cinema and the Architect’s House.
This year’s program covers 113 movies (among them 104 full -length) in 18 sections. The main competitive areas are the national competition in the documentary and competition in Europe. Special collections are also provided: a Poland focus, a German accent, the best in Europe, Gala Premiers, Festival of Festivals, Human Comedy and more.
In addition to the views, participants and guests are waiting for educational-panel discussions, meetings with directors, Q&A-sessions, master class and presentations that will open a filmmaking backstage.
The closing of the 16th Odessa International Film Festival is scheduled for October 3 at Zhovten Cinema.
