Find out what was the Korean singer who was almost part of Shinee, Boygroup of SM Entertainment composed of Onew, Jonghyun, Key, Minho and Taemin
On May 25, 2008, SM Entertainment launched its new boygroup: Shinee, quintet composed of Onew, JONGHYUN, Key, Minho and Taemin. The group made its debut with the song “Replay”, considered by many netizens as one of K-pop’s most memorable debuts, with the track remaining relevant to this day.
17 years later, the set, which debuted in the second generation, follows one of the big names in the South Korean music industry, and accumulates numerous hits, including tracks such as “View”, “Sherlock”, “Lucifer”, “Ring Ding Dong”, “Don’t Call Me”, “Hard”, and much more.
With almost two decades of success, it’s hard to imagine what the group would look like if it had a different background, or even if you had a larger number of members – but it almost happened.
Sixth member of Shinee?
During the program “Man in the Mirror”, by South Korean broadcaster KBS, the Trot singer (former Korean music genre), Kim yong binHe made a revelation that made everyone surprised: he was almost a Shinee member.
The singer, who was the winner of a reality show for Trot singers, revealed that years ago, he even received an offer directly from Lee Soo Manformer producer and founder of SM Entertainment, the company responsible for the group, to be part of Shinee.
Despite the tempting proposal, since SM is considered one of the largest entertainment companies in South Korea, Yong bin He said he decided to deny the proposal for a simple but curious reason. In the program, he justified by saying: “I refused the offer because I really liked Trot music.”

On May 25, Shinee held its latest Comeback, celebrating its 17th anniversary of Debut, with the release of the track “Poet | Artist”, music of the genre Pop that talks about adopting artistic and poetic perspectives in everyday life.
The track was written and co-composed by JONGHYUNmember of the group that, unfortunately, died in 2017, at 27. In addition to paying tribute to his friend re -registering his song, the group also surprised fans by including the singer’s original voice in the song, using the verses sung by the artist in the demo version.
