Slovenian broadcaster RTV Slovenija threatened to refuse to participate in the song competition if EBU does not change the decision about Israel.
The scandal around the next eurovision gets momentum. Slovenian and radio television company RTV Slovenija has announced a possible boycott of the competition, accusing the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) of the lack of political neutrality.
In an official statement, the director of television, Slovenia Ksenia Croat, emphasized that Israel’s participation against the back of a Gaza war brings “serious and growing concern.” According to him, the public in Slovenia and other countries are skeptical of the reliability of the voting and the not introducing the competition.
“It seems that political interests can affect the decision of participation or final voting results, which reduces the public’s confidence in EBU’s injustice,” the Croatia letter told the union.
In addition, the broadcaster requires a public voting report, in particular, comparing phone results and online voting, to prove the transparency of the process. Slovenia also called for the “open and urgent debate” about participating countries in competition, compliance with European values and ensuring apolitical eurovision.
“We will be forced to do this if EBU continues to resolve key issues both from an ethical perspective and from the point of view of public interests,” the director said.
Earlier, Slovenia turned to EBU with similar comments, but the organization’s response, according to broadcaster representatives, was not convincing. In the context of the destruction of the humanitarian situation in the Gaza sector, the question became relevant.
Earlier it was reported that the winner of the Eurovision of Israel had caused the ORF and EBU reaction.
