The reason why an animation character is not in live action

Last week, the movie “Lilo and Stitch”, a live-action adaptation of the 2002 Disney animation, which tells the story of a Hawaiian little girl who adopts an “puppy” rebel, arrived-to-the-year, and helps him understand Ohana’s meaning.

The new version, despite having received numerous praise for expert critics and fans, also featured some details that did not please everyone, such as the absence of Captain Gantu, the main antagonist of the animation, and the transformation of jumba as the villain of the plot.

This is because, without the presence of Gantu, all the character’s village personality was transferred to Jumba who, in the drawing, ends up having a redemption and also becomes part of Lilo’s family, Nani and Stitch-something that doesn’t happen in live-action.

For this reason, Captain Gantu’s absence was disapproved of many fans who have watched the movie. However, the real reason behind the exclusion of the character in the new version was explained by Dean Fleischer Campdirector of the new feature, in an interview with Blend cinema.

Why was Gantu excluded from live action?

During the conversation, Dean He explained that “Gantu was one of those things that just didn’t work so well in live action.” According to the filmmaker, the team even explored him a little, “but in the end we had to make the decision.”

“When we try to keep these characters more fixed in reality and tell a story with greater emotional depth, especially among the sisters, I feel that you have to release a lot of space to give some breath to these things,” concluded Fleischer Camp.

Remember that Gantu’s absence was not the only change in the movie. This is because, although the production recreates iconic moments of the drawing, a series of new events were added to the plot so that it became even more complete and realistic.

Among the news is the arrival of new characters and the inclusion of a professional dream of Nani that was not presented in the animation: that of becoming a marine biologist – something that, due to the death of parents, she had to postpone for a while to take care of her younger sister.

The live-action of “Lilo and Stitch” is already on theaters throughout Brazil.
