The Cannes Film Festival ended with the success of Iran’s Dissident Director Jafar Sew.
The winner of the 78th Film Festival was announced at Cannes-the most prestigious award, the “Golden Palm Branch”, received the Director of Iran of Jafar Sew for the movie “This is just an accident”.
The film, based on the artist’s personal experience, has brought a wave of discussion and has become the most resonant premiere of the festival, various reports.
The ceremony was held at the Palace of the festivals despite the large -scale morning shutdown of electricity, which symbolizes political stress around the current event.
The Award of Pannah was awarded by actress Kate Blanchett. This year’s jury is almost completely feminine – it contains Alba Rorvacher, selling Kapadia, Leila Slimani, Holly Berry, Jeremy Strong and others.
Received an awards, the director turned to the public with an emotional speech, in which he called the unity of the Iran and the struggle for freedom:
“In my opinion, now is the time to look at everyone, to all Iranians with thoughts that are different from others, to Iran and around the world. I want to ask them about one thing: postpone all the problems and disagreements. Most importantly, it is, of course, our country and our country’s freedom,” Sahahi said.
This recognition is of particular importance: for more than 15 years, the director has been prohibited from leaving Iran due to repression. Only after the long hunger and international pressure in 2023 was canceled the ban. Prior to that, his films fell into the international smuggling festivals – as, for example, “This is not a movie” (2011) and “Taxi” (2015), delivered to flash drives throughout the border.
Earlier it was reported that Angelina Jolie took part in the Cannes Film Festival, where she honored the memory of the deceased Ukrainian.
