Title

This Wednesday, 14, was revealed the title of the second film of the franchise. This happened during the NBCuniversal Upfront announcement, which revealed news about Universal’s TV and movies divisions, including the information that The sequence was titled as ‘Super Mario World’.

A derivative?

When the second movie was announced byShigeru Miyamotocharacter creator, and Chris MeledandriCEO of Producer Illumination, through a video published by Nintendo On March 10, 2024 during Mario Day (Mar10), Insider Zippo, known for disclosing rumors that later confirmed as true, revealed through a publication on its blog that production will not be a direct continuation of the original feature, but a spin-off.

According to him, Nintendo’s own sources released the information that the sequence would be a derivative inserted in the same universe of the first film. In addition, he said there are two scripts in progress, one of them inspired by the game “Luigi’s Mansion 4”, which should be released in 2026, and would bring – as well as the games – Luigi as protagonist of the narrative for the big screen. Already the other is centered on Donkey Kong, the great villain of the franchise.

None of the information has been officially confirmed.

Characters

Although it does not have the premise revealed, it is possible that a new character has already been introduced to the fans: Yoshi. It turns out that in the post-credit scene of “Super Mario Bros.-The Movie”, you can see a green egg crashing into Brooklyn’s pipelines, a sequence followed by the voice of the dinosaur already known to those who had access to the games.

In addition to Yoshi, other characters loved by fans of the franchise games will also appear in the feature, according to the actor and voice actor Keegan-Michael Keywho lent his voice to the character Toad in the first movie.

“I feel that what they did creatively (in the second movie) is that they really expanded the universe where these characters live and we will meet some new characters. We will meet some characters who are old (fans) and some that I think are really for those who know the universe very well, but because of the way the story is unfolding now, these characters will be very intriguing,” Men’s Journal told.

Release date

After confirming the sequence, the next information revealed to the public was the release date of ‘Super Mario World’. The news came through a post published in X (former Twitter), where Shigeru Miyamoto states that the production will be launched in theaters of Japan on April 24, 2026. See:
