The Pulitzer Prize committee has mentioned journalists for materials in conflicts, a crisis in the United States and the struggle for freedom of speech.
These Pulitzer prizes, traditionally awarded for the remaining accomplishments in American journalism, brought the largest number of the successes of the New York Times and New Yorker.
In total, these publications have received seven awards: four – The New York Times, Three – New Yorker magazine.
The most resonant works are concerned with the topics of the Fentanil crisis in the United States, an attempt at Donald Trump, as well as illegal gold trade against the back of the Sudan conflict. NYT reporter Declan Volsh has received a prize for an international report from Sudan. In the category of “comments” the success was won by Palestinian poet Mosab Abu Toha for his thoughts about the terrible gas life, published in the New Yorker.
A separate honor was received by the Washington Post journalist for the urgent scope of the attempt at Donald Trump during a rally in July 2024. And cartoonist Anne Telenis, who left Washington Post after the censorship of his satirical work, received a reward for bravery and principles.
At the same time, the Proitzer Committee mentioned the Pro Publica Project for a in -depth investigation into the consequences of the abortion ban in the United States. The Wall Street Journal has received a reward in the National Report category.
During the ceremony at Columbia University, the Prize Administrator Mardzhori Miller emphasized the serious challenges facing modern journalism: financial difficulties, reducing editorial offices and a breakdown in freedom of speech – all threats of democracy in the United States. Miller noted that during the worldwide war and political unethical, independent journalism was important.
