At the time, Ellie and Dina (Isabela Merced) The expedition continues in search of Abby (Kaitlyn Duty) and the Washington Liberation Front (WLF), also known as wolves. Seeing the acronym WLF Pichada on an antenna on top of a building, they decide to take shelter until dusk to attack the group sneakily and, for this, enter an abandoned music store where Ellie ends up finding, among other things, a guitar. She tunes him and then starts playing and singing a song while Dina forms her audience.

What music is this?

The song in question is “Take on Me” by the Norwegian band A-HA. The track had already been presented in the first season, when Ellie and Riley (Storm Reid) are together exploring a mall; Remember:

Still, there are two big differences between the scene in the game and the series. First, in the game, the song is different: Pearl Jam’s “Future Days”. This is because, in “The Last of Us Part II,” players find that this is the first song Joel sang to Ellie and possibly the one that served as the basis for Ellie to learn the chords she knows on the guitar.

In the series, it is not shown Joel teaching Ellie to play. However, in the first episode of the first season, he takes the instrument to change the strings as a last favor to Ellie and, in the most recent scene, Ellie confirms that it was Joel who taught him to play when he receives compliments from Dina for his acoustic performance.

Even this dynamic between Ellie and Dina is also different from the game. In the game, when Dina arrives and sees Ellie playing the song, Ellie interrupts the musical moment because she is not ready to talk about Joel. In the series, there is time for Ellie to feel more comfortable to talk about Joel, as she does not go for revenge at the next moment his death, causing her to accept Dina’s request to continue playing.
