The 78th Cannes Film Festival was honored by the Hollywood icon for an outstanding contribution to World Cinema. It will start on May 13.

American actress, director and manufacturer Robert de Niro will be an honorary laureate of the Golden Palm Branch at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, starting May 13.

This year, the legendary figure will be celebrated for life achievements, almost a decade and a half after he led the Cannes jury in 2011. It was reported on the official film festival website.

“The Cannes celebration is so close to me. Especially now, when there are many things in the world moving us to each other, Cannes are united -historians, directors, fans and friends. It’s like coming home,” De Niro said.

The Honorary Gold Palm Branch is one of the most prestigious awards of the festival, awarded for an outstanding contribution to the cinema. Previously, it received great figures such as Meryl Streep, George Lucas, Jody Foster, Harrison Ford and others.

Earlier it was reported that actress Juliet Binosh would be head of the jury of the main competition of the 78th Cannes International Film Festival.
