Founded in 1996 by YANG HYUN-SUKFormer trio member considered to be the first K-pop group in history, SEO Taiji and Boys, YG Entertainment has become one of South Korea’s main entertainment agencies-remaining with the title to the present day.
Throughout its nearly 30 years of existence, the agency was responsible for launching big names from K-pop, including groups such as Bigbang, 2NE1 and Blackpink. Check out other formations that also debuted by YG Entertainment!
1. 1TYM

With a concept focused on hip-hop, 1TYM (One Time) debuted in November 1998, consisting of four members: Jinhwan, Baekkyung, Danny and Teddy Parkfounder of TheblackLabel, subsidiary of YG, and producer of both companies. The group remained active until 2006, when it announced that it would go to hiatus, and made its last appearance together in 2008, during a Bigbang concert in Japan. Although they never officially announced the disband, some of the members decided to retire from the entertainment industry.
2. SWI.T

The first girlgroup to be released by YG Entertainment was SWI.T (acronym for Song Will Tell). Formed by three members, Eunjooo, Naiyoung and Mihyunthe set debuted in April 2002 with a self -titled album, consisting of 12 songs, which became the only one released in his career. In 2004, the trio announced its separation from lack of activity.
3. Akmu

Owners of the title “Brothers of the Nation”, the Akmu (Akdong Musician) is composed by the brothers Lee Chanhyuk and Lee Suhyun. After winning the second season of the music reality show “Kpop Star”, which had YANG HYUN-SUK As one of the judges, they signed with YG Entertainment, and made their expected debut on April 7, 2014 with the album “Play”. Currently, the pair still remains in the company.
4. Lee Hi

Just like Akmu, Lee hi He also participated in the music reality show “Kpop Star”, but in the first season held in 2012, where he finished second and signed with YG, debuting in the same year with the single “1.2.3.4”. In 2019, he left the agency and today has his career managed by Duover.
5. Ikon

Formed through the “Mix & Match” survival program, Ikon premiered in 2015 with the single “My Type”. Initially, the group consisted of seven members: Bobby, Jay, June, Song, DK, Chan and BIhowever, the last one ended up leaving the formation in June 2019. On December 30, 2022, after the end of their contracts, the six members announced their departure from the company, signing with the 143 Entertainment, where they are today.
