Since its confirmation, the film has been the target of numerous controversies since the beginning, with one of its first controversies being the choice of the actress who will give life to the first princess: Rachel Zegler. This is because, in addition to some netizens criticize the fact that the artist has Colombian descent, many also did not agree with her choice due to old speeches of the star, where she criticized the original plot.

But what did Rachel Zegler say?

Remember that for many fans, the “modernization” of history has always been a topic that received numerous criticisms. After its confirmation, in conversation with Variety (via screenrant), Rachel He was asked about his opinion related to the “modern touch” that the remake would approach, and argued that the plot will be “a really amazing story for young people everywhere to see each other.”

“I just want to say that we are no longer in 1937, and we absolutely write a Snow White that will not be saved by the prince, and she will not be dreaming of true love. She is dreaming of becoming the leader she knows can be and the leader that her late father said she could be if she was fearless, just, brave and true.

Already in an interview for Extract, Zegler Explains about the differences between the original version and her interpretation of the classic princess, where she says that the 1937 drawing “there is a great focus on her love story with a guy who literally pursues her. Strange, weird. So we didn’t do it this time.”

“We have a different approach to what I’m sure a lot of people will assume to be a love story just because we climb a guy for the movie, Andrew Burnap, a nice guy,” he continues. “It’s one of these things that I think everyone will have their assumptions about what it really will be, but it is not really about the love story, which is really wonderful. If it finds love along the way is unknown until 2024.”

The actress finishes her speech by saying, “It’s an inner journey she does to find her true self, and she knows many people along the way that makes the journey really amazing.”

Due to these lines, Rachel He began to receive a series of attacks on social networks, with fans of the original animation accusing the artist of reducing the importance of the 1937 film. In a recent interview with Cosmopolitan magazine in 2024, the protagonist vented about online harassment she received, saying that the situation became so critical that even people even went to her apartment to scream profanity.

According to the actress, she was attacked by “because she was brunette. For having dark skin. For interpreting Snow White. There was a lot of harassment of a certain group of people – they were appearing in my apartment and screaming bad words. For that project is something I admire in myself. ”
