In a recent interview for Empire, Craig Mazinthe showrunner responsible for the success series “The Last of Us”, adaptation produced by HBO of the game of the same name of developer Naughty Dog, made a revelation that left fans of the franchise extremely excited.
According to the professional, the second season, which is scheduled to debut on April 13, will feature the arrival of a well -known name of the game fans: the persecutors.

But what are the “persecutors”?
First of all, it is important to remember that the plot of “The Last of Us” has no zombies, but people infected with the Cordyceps fungus. It turns out that when contaminated, the infection hits the victim’s brain and may cause different changes in his behavior.

Unlike runners, persecutors are not so fast, but they are also extremely dangerous and deadly, having the habit of hiding in dark and damp places to attack their victims by surprise.
Although they are creatures that have a high danger, persecutors are not the most lethal, as this title belongs to the king of rats. As explained by the young Nerd, there is still no confirmation if this would be a fifth stage of the effects of Cordyceps, but remains the most dangerous among the infected.
Appearing only in “The Last of Us II”, the King of Rats would have emerged after several infected were trapped in a small place for more than a decade, making the fungi fungi, turning into a single creature extremely difficult to kill – but also rare, taking into consideration that only one appears throughout the franchise.
