Find out what Gints Zibalodis said, the director of Oscar 2025 winning animation, “Flow”, about why there are no humans in the plot
At the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California, the United States, it took place during the night of last Sunday, 02, the delivery of the Oscar awards, where the feature film “Flow”, surpassed “Fun Mind 2”, “Memoir of a Snail”, “Wallace and Gomit: Vengeance Most Fowl” and “The Wildlife” and won the best animation category.
“I’m really moved by the warm reception our movie has had, and I hope you open doors to independent animation filmmakers around the world,” said film director Gints Zibalodis during the speech by accepting the award.
The story, launched independently, made in free software and a tight budget of about US $ 3.8 million (RS 22 million in the current price), brought the first nomination and the first victory of Latvia to academia awards, which provided state support for animation.
Among the deeds that made the title win the golden statuette is the plot, which without any dialogue, accompanies a black kitten that has its lonely days placed when a flood reaches the place where it lives, since with everything covered with water, it finds a shelter aboard a boat inhabited by other animals. In order to survive, the feline and the other species will have to overcome the differences, embarking on a trip full of surprises and lessons.
Bringing, besides the cat, characters such as a dog, a heron, a capybara and a lemure that gained voice through the capture of real sounds of the animals – except for the rodent that has the voice of a Camero puppy – the universe where “flow” is inserted has no human figure.
What happened to humans?
With the peculiarity, some fans even speculated the reason that led the humans to disappear from the earth. While some claim that they have not survived the natural catastrophe, others believe they have left the globe due to climate change.
In addition, there is also the idea that the flood was a consequence of global warming, as with the increase in long -term temperatures caused by human activities, the melting of all terrestrial ice occurred, causing a huge increase in sea level.
Still, the filmmaker Gints zibalodis He said, through an X (former Twitter) publication, that there is no certain response to why there are no humans in “flow” or why the world was temporarily dominated by water, as the plot revolves around a cat’s perspective.
“In Flow we do not know what happened to humans or where the flood comes from because the story is told from the cat’s point of view and the cat does not know these things. We leave some clues for you to find it alone,” wrote the director.
