Disney Channel is no longer part of the television programming grid from several other countries besides Brazil; Find out which one!
Disney Channel is leaving Brazil! The channel that arrived in the Tupiniquim country in 2001 will leave the Brazilian paid television programming grid from tomorrow, 28, and from then on the shows, series and movies that were shown on TV can now be seen on the Disney+streaming.
Disney explained the reason on December 2 last year, stating in a statement that the choice is a response to “transformations in the local media scenario.”
“In response to transformations in the local media and entertainment scenario, and to ensure that we continue to evolve and meet the needs of our consumers with agility and innovation, we have decided to discontinue the operation of some linear channels in Brazil,” Disney said in a statement.
In addition to Disney Channel, Star Channel, Cinecanal, FX, National Geographic, Disney Channel and Baby TV, will no longer air, leaving only the ESPN sports channel, which will continue its programming in the country.
But, is it only Brazil that no longer will have Disney Channel?
The answer is no! This year alone, two more countries will no longer have Disney Channel: France, which said goodbye to the Channel with Disney Junior HD, National Geographic after the end of the contract between Disney and the French network Canal+, and Spain, where the channel was closed on January 7, 2025.
Still, it is worth noting that this is a movement that has been happening since 2019 due to the transformations that has been occurring in the method of tracking entertainment content, which was driven with the popularization of streaming, causing audience drops on television content that were once highly successful.
Thus, over the past six years, Disney Channel has not aired in countries such as UK, Italy, Turkey, Australia, South Korea and Southeast Asia countries, where their brothers’ channels were also closed. Until then, no other region has been confirmed so as not to have the channel available anymore, but new names are likely to appear soon.
