Heirs of the superman creator try to prevent the new movie from release

The release of the new superman movie, directed by James Gunnis generating high expectations. The feature promises to start a new phase for the DC cinematic universe. However, before the film hit the screens, the company and producer of the universe, Warner Bros., faces an important legal dispute involving the character’s distribution rights.

According to Deadline magazine, as a guarantee of the estate – which concerns the assets and rights of a deceased – Joseph Schusterco-creator of the action man, there is a lawsuit against Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Comics, which claims that studios do not have the rights to release the film in some territories, such as Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia.

The lawsuit was registered on Friday, 31, at the Federal Court of the Southern District of New York by MARK WARREN PEARYexecutor of Schusterwhich seeks “precautionary damage and measures for the continuous violation of the defendants”, as well as a decision that establishes the property rights of the deceased in these countries. The action also claims that Superman’s copyright was automatically reversed to the deceased’s estate after his death, according to international copyright laws, but even so, the company continues to use the character in these countries without the necessary consent.

Warner Bros., through a spokesman, said that he “disagrees fundamentally from the merits of the process” and will defend himself, while the estate seeks an order of termination and withdrawal of the company. The process also calls for financial compensation for damages caused by the violation of copyright.
