Draft of the legendary song Mr. Bob Dylan’s Tambourine Man sold at auction in the US for more than half a million dollars.
A draft of Bob Dylan’s song Mr. The Tambourine Man, created in 1965, became the central lot at Julien’s Auctions in the United States, the BBC reports.
For the unique text, published on two yellow sheets with the author’s handwritten notes, they paid 508 thousand dollars.
The lyrics are three typewritten drafts that differ from the final version of the hit. Mr. Tambourine Man is one of Dylan’s most famous works, and the rough copies themselves are among 60 lots from the musician’s collection being sold in Nashville.
Also for sale at auction:
-
Oil painting from 1968 signed by Dylan.
-
The 1983 Fender Telecaster electric guitar played by the musician.
-
Levi’s denim jacket worn in the musical drama Hearts of Fire (1987) – sold for $25,400.
Dylan’s hand-drawn sketches attracted special attention, exceeding the initial estimate. One of them, with a list price of $1,500-2,500, finally went under the hammer for $88,900.
Of particular interest is journalist Al Aronowitz’s article, Bob Dylan: Champion Without Rivals, which describes the process of creating the song Mr. Drum Man. According to the author, Dylan spent the night at his house, repeatedly rewriting the text on a typewriter. The journalist found crumpled drafts in the trash, which later became part of the auction collection.
In total, sales of the Dylan collection brought in nearly $1.5 million.
It was previously reported that at the first auction of the year at a popular fish market in Tokyo, a 276-kilogram bluefin tuna sold for 207 million yen.
