In early December, SM Entertainment announced that Taeyeonleader of Girls’ Generation, will not participate in the SMTOWN 2025 concert in Seoul, celebrating the company’s 30th anniversary. Now, the agency has issued a new statement announcing yet another absence: Wendyby Red Velvet.
Through the ticket sales platform Melon Ticket (via Soompi), SM published a note saying that, for “personal reasons”, Wendy will not participate in the shows scheduled for January 11th and 12th. To date, the other members of Red Velvet, Irene, Seulgi, Joy and Yeriremain confirmed.
“Red Velvet’s Wendy will not appear at SMTOWN LIVE 2025 in Seoul due to personal reasons. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this lineup change. Ticket cancellations and refunds due to this change can be processed without cancellation fees through our customer service center,” the company said in the announcement.
It is worth remembering that, in addition to Seoul, the SMTOWN show, which features numerous artists from SM Entertainment, also has performances scheduled in Mexico City, on May 9th, Los Angeles, on May 11th, and Tokyo, from August 9th to 10th, with Red Velvet confirmed for performances in Mexico and Japan.
For the presentation in South Korea, the following artists are confirmed: Kangta (HOT), BoA, TVXQ!, Super Junior, Hyoyeon (Girls’ Generation), Minho and Key (SHINee), Red Velvet, NCT 127, NCT DREAM, WayV, aespa, RIIZE, NCT WISH, naevis and Raiden.
According to information from SM Entertainment, artists who were once part of the company, but who no longer have a contract with the agency, were also invited to the event, however, it is not yet known whether the stars will be present, or whether they will be promoted to the stage alongside the other confirmed singers.
