Remember some of the main moments of 2024 that marked the k-pop industry and resonated internationally among fans
The year 2024 was full of excitement for K-pop fans! Over the months, admirers of South Korean pop music had the opportunity to be excited, amused and enjoy the hundreds of releases that dominated the music charts, as well as enjoying the shows of their favorite artists who returned or came for the first time to the Brazil.
Much more than just music, the K-pop industry has also had a series of controversies that have resonated internationally, and still generate comments on social media.
With this in mind, RECREIO separated a list of 5 k-pop events that marked the year 2024. Remember!
1. Jin and J-Hope from BTS military discharge
In 2023, ARMYs had to say a temporary goodbye to the members of BTS, when they all began their mandatory military enlistment. In 2024, the first two members finally returned to activities as idols: Jin and J-Hope.
Jin He was the first to be released, being released in June, where he was welcomed by all the other members. Already J-Hope concluded his service in October, with the presence of the oldest member on the day of his departure. Now, fans will need to wait until June 2025 to finally receive RM, Suga, Jimin, V and Jungkook.
2. 2NE1 and BIGBANG Reunion
In recent times, reunions of iconic groups from previous generations have become increasingly common. However, what many did not expect is that, in the same year, we could experience the reunion of 2NE1 and BIGBANG, two of the main groups of the second generation, formed by YG Entertainment.
Although the company announced 2NE1’s disbandment in 2016, the girl group reunited in 2024 to celebrate their 15th anniversary with a commemorative tour. BIGBANG performed its first performance with just three members at the MAMA Awards 2024, where, in addition to presenting some of their biggest hits, such as “BANG BANG BANG” and “Fantastic Baby”, G-Dragon, Taeyang and Daesung they also performed the new song “HOME SWEET HOME”.
3. NewJeans X ADOR X HYBE conflict
In April, K-pop fans were surprised by the revelation that HYBE had launched an investigation against Min Hee JinCEO of ADOR at the time, for allegedly trying to transform the company into an independent company. The businesswoman countered the allegation, denying the information, and accusing the conglomerate of plagiarizing the NewJeans concept for other brand groups and of poor management.
After being removed as CEO, NewJeans members, who supported Hee Jin From the beginning, they began to speak out more openly on the matter in September, when they carried out a live broadcast asking for the producer’s return, demonstrating their dissatisfaction with the new management of ADOR and also accusing HYBE of poor management.
After a series of lawsuits, and with HYBE and ADOR not responding to the artists’ requests, on November 28, Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein announced that they were leaving the companies, ending their exclusive contracts, and that they would continue their activities as independent artists.
At the beginning of December, ADOR filed a lawsuit against the quintet to confirm the validation of the exclusive contract with the group, which, according to the members, would no longer be valid after the agency violated the contract. The case is still ongoing.
4. Shows in Brazil
The famous “Come to Brazil” was very real in 2024! This year, K-pop fans were honored with the arrival of countless artists to our country, with incredible shows that drew crowds. Among them, we had:

5. Taeil Case
On August 28, SM Entertainment issued a statement announcing the departure of Taeil of the NCT, due to a serious sexual crime charge.

According to information shared by the Soompi portal, the idol was being investigated for possible involvement in a serious sexual assault against an intoxicated woman alongside two other men, who were believed to be his acquaintances. The case, which remains under investigation, was transferred to the Seoul Central District Public Prosecutor’s Office on September 12.
On October 16, SM issued a new statement, announcing the termination of the artist’s contract. In the statement, the company said: “Taeil is currently under investigation by the prosecutor’s office for a criminal case. Not only does this constitute grounds for termination under our contract, but it also makes it impossible to maintain trust in him as an artist. As a result, both parties mutually agreed to terminate the contract.”
