Adaptation of the Broadway musical of the same name, “Wicked” opened on November 21 bringing Cynthia Erivo like Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, characters who would come to be known as the Wicked Witch of the West and the Good Witch of the South, respectively, presented for the first time in “The Wizard of Oz”, a work that appeared in 1900 as a book written by L. Frank Baum.
In the plot that shows their past, Elphaba begins studying at the University of Shiz without yet knowing her real power, something that, combined with the fact that she has green skin, meant that she was treated differently from the others. On the other hand, Glinda, who ends up becoming Elphaba’s roommate, is popular and ambitious in the academic environment, making the friendship that the two build throughout the story somewhat unlikely.
However, the friends, who were so strange before learning to like each other, will suffer a great dilemma when they visit the Wizard of Oz in search of help to solve a growing problem with the anthropomorphic animals of the magical land, since the choices they make will do, will result in the reputation that Dorothy knows about the two of them in the future; remember the trailer:

Why was it separated into two parts?
In the play, “Wicked” has two acts. In this way, dividing the story on screen makes the adaptation more faithful to the reference work, in addition to bringing more cohesion to the plot. This is because, in the musical, the second act sets a different tone for the narrative, in addition to presenting a time jump by following Elphaba returning to Oz to present her sister with the magical shoes.
What’s the title?
Previously called “Wicked: Part 2”, the sequel gained its official title last Monday, the 17th: “Wicked: For Good”. The subtitle refers to one of the songs that features Glinda and Elphaba’s voices in the musical.
What happens in the second part?
If the feature film follows the musical plot, in the second part of “Wicked”, Glinda and Elphaba assume the positions of Good Witch of the South and Bad Witch of the West.
Additionally, it’s expected to see Elphaba and Fiyero expressing how they feel about each other, as well as how and why Evil transforms Nessarose’s silver shoes so she can walk.
More than that, the new feature film should address the transformations of Boq into the Tin Man and Fiyero into the Scarecrow, in addition to the revelation of who the Cowardly Lion is. The plot will also show the arrival of Dorothy and clarify who the mysterious man whose daughter Elphaba is is.
When does it open in theaters?
The title is scheduled to go on sale on November 20, 2025.
