Have you noticed that Glinda is the only character in ‘Wicked’ who doesn’t wear the blue Shiz University uniform? Find out why this happens!
The new film adaptation of “Wicked”, inspired by the renowned Broadway musical that emerged from the book by Gregory Maguire published in 1995, responsible for presenting the story of the unlikely friendship between Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande), known in the “Wizard of Oz” franchise as the Wicked Witch of the West and the Good Witch of the North, respectively.
During the plot, we discover that the duo met when they enrolled at Shiz University, but, at first, they couldn’t stand each other. The two end up getting closer after being placed as roommates, and starting to live together more frequently, starting a friendship that, unfortunately, has an expiration date.
As a result, a large part of the film is set on the premises of Shiz University, making fans realize a curious fact: Glinda is the only student who does not wear the same blue uniform as the others, always wearing pink clothes. .
Why doesn’t Glinda wear Shiz’s uniform?
As reported by the ScreenRant portal, Glinda does not wear the same uniform as the other students as a way of showing the special treatment she receives at the institute. This is because the Good Witch of the North comes from an extremely wealthy family, being used to living in luxury and having everyone around her fulfilling her wishes.
Part of this privilege can also be noticed from the moment she arrives at Shiz, when she demands a single dormitory, in addition to being immediately surrounded by other students who try to approach her and flatter her. So much so that, at the moment she is forced to share a room with Elphaba, in addition to not being immediately accepted to take classes with Madame Morrible, Glinda feels extremely uncomfortable because her wishes are not being fulfilled.
Furthermore, during the song “What Is This Feeling” (“Hate”, in the Portuguese version), it is also possible to see all the other students supporting Glinda during her disagreement with Elphaba, being called a martyr for being “forced to live with someone so disgusting.”
