How will Stitch be made in live-action?

Played by someone, animated or created by a computer; find out how Stitch will appear in the live-action “Lilo & Stitch”

Released in 2002, Disney’s animated film “Lilo & Stitch” will be adapted into live-action for the first time! The feature film was confirmed in 2018 and recording ended in March this year.

In the plot, the little Hawaiian girl who loves animals and the alien criminal — who is one of the most wanted in the galaxy — disguised as a dog whose lives end up intertwined when she adopts him after finding him in a kennel. Without knowing that the blue pet doesn’t belong on Earth, Lilo will live several adventures alongside Stitch until he gets the chance to be on the planet legally and so they can give meaning to the concept of “Ohana” by forming a beautiful family.

So that the story directed by Chris Sanders is told with real actors and in realistic scenarios, the production features the film debutant Maia Kealohato bring Lilo to life; Sydney Agudong (Infamously in Love), to play Lilo’s sister Nani; Kaipot Dudoit (My Partner), as Nani’s love interest, David Kawena and many others who recorded the scenes at the Hawaii Film Studio, on the island of Oahu and in the Kaneohe region, located in Honolulu County.

But, what about Stitch, who will make him take shape on the big screen?

It is worth noting that in addition to human characters, some aliens will also be represented by flesh-and-blood figures, such as Jumba, Pleakley and Cobra Bubble, who will be played by the actors. Zach Galifianakis (If You Drink, Don’t Marry!), Billy Magnussen (The Franchise) and Courtney B. Vance (Law & Order: Criminal Intent), respectively.

However, that won’t be the case for Stitch. The adorable blue being will be inserted in post-production, as it will be done using CGI; see the first image released:

What is CGI?

The technology used to create Stitch is common in the world of gaming, film and television! As the name suggests, CGI, an acronym for Computer-Generated Imagery, corresponds to computer-generated images, usually in 3D, inserted when editing a film/program/clip to create places, characters or special effects.

Challenge for actors?

As Stitch is not played by an actor, not seeing him and not being able to physically interact with him could be a challenge for the performers of the other characters. However, Maia Kealoha He stated that he resolved the impasse with a single trick: using his imagination!

“I would say you have to have a lot of imagination to realize, like, ‘Oh, maybe I should pretend he’s real’ so I can say, ‘Yeah, I did it, I did it,'” he began explaining to Entertainment Weekly about how you handled the CGI. “So, I’ll get another movie, and maybe there’ll be a donkey talking. We’ll be like, ‘Uh, this isn’t real.’ And you have to be, like, you have to imagine this.”

It will be possible to see how Stitch fit into the story soon, as “Lilo & Stitch” is scheduled for release on May 22, 2025 in Brazil, one day before its release in the United States.
