Disney’s sequel to the hit Moana earned $52 million over the weekend in North America, surpassing the previous record set by Frozen 2.
The sequel to Walt Disney’s animated hit Moana 2 set a new record at the North American box office, taking in $52 million in the second weekend after Thanksgiving, AP reports.
It surpassed the figure set in 2019 by the animated film Frozen 2, which then earned $35.2 million.
The combined box office receipts of Moana 2 in the US and Canada have reached $300 million, more than the result of the original film. Worldwide, the cartoon earned $600 million, proving its popularity among viewers.
Second place over the weekend was taken by Universal Pictures’ Wicked: A Tale of the Witch of the West, which brought in $34.9 million for the musical’s domestic box office total of $320.5 million and global box office total of $455.6 million.
In third place was the film Gladiator 2 directed by Ridley Scott, which added $12.5 million to its box office was taken by the adventure film Mission: Red from Amazon Studios with a profit of $7 million.
