for two weeks Madame Figaro forces us to discover the books that celebrities love to give away.Actress, director, singer and writer Rachida Brackney explains why she chooses now There are men who will always lose By Rebecca Ligieri.
“The book I’m giving away the most right now is Rebecca Ligieri’s (who also writes under the name Emmanuel Bayamac-Tham) because it’s out in 2020, but I just discovered it. There are men who will always lose I was impressed by the quality of his writing. there is breath, lyricism, but also trash and brutal moments. The story takes us to the 1990s in Marseille, and follows a family of three children raised by failed parents in a cruel world. They will do anything to thrive against life and will try to get out of it with the few weapons and resources they have. And there is an unbreakable bond that binds these brothers and sisters.
The story is moving, the writing is very visual, and this novel responds to a form of humanity that transforms us without even realizing it. It resonates with me because it takes me back to my youth, to those years hits. I recommended it to my loved ones and was happy to see Eric (Cantona, his companion, Editor’s note), cry as you close it, because when we pass on an intimate object that has upset us, we hope to find another around this shared humanity. When we find a treasure, we want to share it.”
