‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ casts new role as Zeus

In March 2023, the world received the sad news of the death of Lance Reddickactor responsible for playing the mythological god Zeus in the Disney+ series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians”. At just 60 years old, the star’s death was confirmed before the series debuted on the streaming platform.

Now, last Monday, the 25th, Variety magazine (via Omelete) confirmed the name of the new actor who will replace Lanceand take on the role of Zeus: Courtney B. Vancestar of “The Hunt for Red October”.

“I can’t tell you how excited I am to join the extraordinary cast of Percy Jackson and the Olympians!” Vance said in a statement to Variety.

Also speaking to the magazine, the series producer, Dan Shotzalso recalled the legacy of Lance Reddickand how “really inspiring” it was to work alongside him on one of his latest works.

“The day we lost Lance Reddick, we lost an icon. Working with this fierce and gentle talent in one of his final roles as Zeus in ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ was truly inspiring.”

It is worth remembering that, during D23 Brasil, a new name was also revealed that will join the cast of the series for the second season: Andra Daywho will play Athena, mother of Annabeth Chase, a character played by Leah Jeffries.

Furthermore, RECREIO, which was present at the Disney+ panel during the event, also followed an exclusive video call with the cast, alongside the creator of this entire universe, Rick Riordan. During the conversation, the writer, alongside Walker Scobell, Arian Simhadri and Leahshowed some items used in the recordings of the series, with ArianGrover’s interpreter, showing first-hand his famous bamboo flute.
