The difference between Glinda in the musical and the film

Find out what the Glinda difference is that can be found between the “Wicked” musical and the film that premieres this Wednesday, 21st, in theaters

This Thursday, the 21st, Brazilian cinemas will receive the first part of “Wicked”! Set in the universe of “The Wizard of Oz”, a 1900 book by the author L. Frank Baum which became a film at the end of the 1930s, the feature film is a prequel to the events led by Doroty, since here, the main characters are Glinda (Ariana Grande) and Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), who would later become known as the Good Witch of the North and the Wicked Witch of the West, respectively.

In the plot, they are presented as students at Shiz University, where they end up having their lives intertwined with the institution’s director, Madame Morrible. But it is outside of there that the friendship they form takes on another meaning, since when they travel to the Emerald City in order to get help from the famous ruler of that land to solve a growing problem where they live, they will face trials that will forever transform their lives. relationship they share; remember the trailer:

Despite being released today, the plot is not unknown to fans of this universe, as it is an adaptation of the book of the same name by Gregory Maguire released in 1995, which became a musical in 2003, where the witches were played on the Broadway stage for the first time by Idina Menzel (Elphaba) and Kristin Chenoweth (Glinda).

Even so, the story can be followed by those who did not have the chance to follow the show, but it is worth highlighting that there is a difference in Glinda that only those who know the musical will be able to perceive…

Different wardrobe?

The change in question is in Glinda’s costumes! As reflected by the portal ScreenRant, in the feature film, the character played by Ariana Grande always appears dressed in pink costumes, unlike the play, where Chenoweth There are different colored clothes for the character during the musical number.

According to the vehicle, there are some reasons for such changes in the character’s appearance. The first of them concerns the subconscious connection they want to create between the new feature film and the one released in 1939, as it is possible that the choice of a wardrobe made up of pink pieces helps to strengthen the idea that the character will become the Good Witch who crosses Dorothy’s path.

In addition, there is also the construction of the character’s personality. While the musical uses different tones as a way of conveying Glinda’s emotions, in the film, where facial expressions can be noticed more easily than on a stage, the clothes do not need to convey what the character feels, and pink can play the role to convey the youth, femininity and romantic ideals that pulse in the young witch.
