From presentations to collaborations; discover 5 moments that went down in the history of South Korea’s musical genre, k-pop
K-pop began in the 1990s, with the emergence of the first group of its kind: Seo Taiji and Boys. Since then, the musical genre that originates in South Korea has gained several artists and undergone numerous transformations, resulting in performances, achievements and collaborations that occupy an extensive list of important achievements for the trajectory of South Korean pop music.
Thinking about these situations that fill fans with pride, make them laugh or leave them surprised to this day, RECREIO has put together a list of 5 historic moments in k-pop; check it out:
1. Red Velvet’s presentation in North Korea
Today, North Korea has a law that establishes a sentence of five to 15 years of forced labor for anyone caught watching or in possession of South Korean entertainment. However, before the legislation was created, some groups and soloists performed in the country, one of them being Red Velvet.
With the exception of Joywho did not cross the border due to her acting schedule, Irene, Seulgi, Wendyand Yeri were able to sing the tracks ‘Red Flavor’ and ‘Bad Boy’ at the Spring is Coming concert held on April 1 and 3, 2018, at the East Pyongyang Grand Theatre.
With the theater’s 1,500 seats full, one of the seats was occupied by the dictator Kim Jong Unmarking the first time a North Korean leader attended a South Korean performance in the North.
2. The movie Wonder Girls
Marked as one of the great efforts to bring K-pop to American culture, “The Wonder Girls” was a 40-minute film that followed the members of Wonder Girls on a tour in the United States. In the plot, upon arriving in New York, they participate in the famous talent competition Amateur Night Auditions, at the Apollo Theater.
The film was co-produced by K-pop company JYP Entertainment and Nick Cannon’s company N’Credible, and premiered on the TeenNick channel in February 2012. At the time, “The DJ Is Mine”, a promotional single for the film, was released entirely in English, was released on January 11th. Remember the MV:
3. The “meeting” between TVXQ’s Changmin and a mysterious woman is caught
In 2010, Yunho from TVXQ!, participated in a tribute show to michael jackson following the release of the documentary “This Is It”. The work was honored by his group colleague Changminwho came to the scene to support Yunho.
At the time, a Japanese newspaper caught Changmin in a conversation, and reported that the idol was on a “date” with a “mysterious woman”, treating the situation as a dating scandal. What makes the situation iconic, however, is that there were no women at all. In fact, he was talking to Minhofrom SHINee, who had long hair at the time.

4. T-ARA N4 and Chris Brown
Chris Brown counted on the subunit T-ARA N4, from T-ARA, to open his show held in Las Vegas, in 2013. Before the presentation, the group also performed at a party at the rapper’s pool, where they experienced a situation, At the very least, embarrassing.
It turns out that while they were singing “Jeon Won Diary”, they were interrupted so the rapper could present his new song. Seconds later, Chris Brown realized that he had stopped the group’s song in the middle, and clarified that his unreleased track should be played after the quartet’s performance, causing them to return to their positions to finish the performance.

5. Anna Kendrick learning to be an idol with of(x)
In 2013, “Anna Kendrick goes K-Pop with f(x)” appeared, a video in which the actress Anna Kendrick travels to South Korea to learn how to be a K-Pop idol with the girl group f(x), where she needs to learn choreography, manage to sing parts in Korean, deal with fans and, of course, injuries — everything this with several references to the actress’ role in “Pitch Perfect”.
