Villain of the franchise that satirizes fairy tales, Lord Farquaad appeared in the first film in the Shrek franchise, released in 2001
Since “Shrek 5” was announced by DreamWorks, several doubts about the production began to arise, and among them is the question: Lord Farquaad, the main antagonist of the feature film that opened the franchise in 2001, will return for the fifth film ?
Lord Farquaad back?
The issue reached the character’s official voice actor, John Lithgow (The Old Man), who, in an interview with People (via ScreenRant), stated that he would return to voice Farquaad, revealing that if the invitation arose he would “say yes in a minute”. However, contact by the production team never emerged, since the possibility of the villain returning in some way is considered null by him.
“It turns out it’s impossible to recover from being eaten by a dragon… They didn’t approach me. I don’t know anything about it and no, I’m not part of it,” he said.
This is because, as mentioned by Lightgowthe authoritarian ruler of the Duloc region is no longer alive! It turns out that, in “Shrek” (2001), Farquaad organized a tournament to find a knight who would rescue the princess from the tower where she was trapped, so that he, who dreamed of turning Duloc into a kingdom, could marry the princess and make your wish a reality.
Shrek, an ogre, fulfilled the challenge in exchange for having his swamp free of magical creatures that came out of classic fairy tales. Still, during the wedding ceremony, Shrek opposed the union, revealing to Fiona that Farquaad only wanted marriage to become king.
Meanwhile, the sun sets and the princess transforms into an ogre in front of everyone, causing Farquaad, now disappointed and filled with rage, to order her to be imprisoned again and Shrek to be killed.
With the order, Shrek started a battle by calling the female Dragon, who previously guarded the tower, into the palace. She, who enters with Donkey, ends up devouring Farquaad, ending the Lord’s life.whose death was confirmed at the same moment as the Dragon belched the crown he was wearing.
Remember the scene in full:
That way, For Lord Farquaad to be seen again in the flesh, the script would need to find some way to bring him back to life — something laborious and unlikely to happen, making it likely that the fifth film starring Shrek will address new antagonists and problems, or that the character will only be seen through flashbacks, mentions or supernatural appearances, as has already happened in “Shrek 4-D”, where he appeared as a ghostly figure who kidnaps Fiona.
It’s worth remembering that “Shrek 5” will feature the returns ofEddie Murphy, Mike Myersand Cameron Diazto the dubbing cast, voicing Donkey, Shrek and Princess Fiona, respectively. The film will premiere directly in theaters in the United States on July 1, 2026. In Brazil, the official release date has not yet been confirmed.
